Hardus watching

There's no real news to report on this weekend, it having been quiet from a Derbyshire cricket perspective.

No doubt there is plenty going on down at the Incora County Ground, but I have contentedyself with watching the CSA T20 from South Africa. It ended in a win today for Hardus Viljoen's side, the Rocks.

His spell at Derbyshire was troubled by injury and some inconsistent displays, but when he got it right he was a handful.

Today he scored an unbeaten 32  off 16 balls to give late impetus to what barely seemed enough (138) of a total.

Yet his side bowled and fielded well and Viljoen bowled with pace and accuracy I'm taking 2-14.

I think the South African wickets have been pretty good for the format, with batsmen able to get runs and bowlers offered assistance.

Can you ask for more?

  1. Given what's currently happening in the world and the images now showing of the prime minister of Pakistan shaking hands and signing a deal with Putin should the ICC now remove Pakistan from international cricket? Also as a knock on from that should the ECB ban all Pakistani cricketers from playing in England?

    1. No. Pakistan haven't invaded another country and killed their citizens.

    2. I think we will have agree to disagree on this

  2. Pity Viljoen was such an inconsistent performer for us. I remember the first ball of his spell in a low scoring Championship match at Derby going for 4 wides, followed by a wretched inaccurate 3 or 4 overs while at the other end Reece was taking 7-20.

    1. He had that brilliant game at Hove, but was on serious money. He didn't deliver often enough and a ridiculous spell at Durham, when he tried to hit players on a bouncy wicket, rather than just getting them out, was appalling. One of the worst spells I have seen in our colours by a player capable of so much better.
