And then...

No sooner had it begun than the Derbyshire players are set to return home, in light of the corona virus.

It makes sense, and is not at all unexpected. With sporting events around the world being cancelled, and other clubs on overseas tours returning home, it was only a matter of time before we did so.

Pre-season will now continue at the Pattonair County Ground.

As for the season itself, who knows what is going to happen?

  1. I know that my dad would be happier at the cricket than self isolating. I can't see how it's feasible to shut down society, personally.

  2. Hi Peakfan, Hope all is well. With the developing virus situation there must be genuine concern in county cricket about the start of the new season. Have you heard any rumours about what the ECB are considering? Could the County Championship start as planned but with matches behind closed doors, for example? I see that horse racing seem to be seriously exploring this. Further, could counties survive if worse case scenario the full season is abandoned? These are worrying times and I hope all county members at all clubs stay safe and well over the next few months. All the best, James

  3. It's looking as if we over 70s are going to be locked away for the Summer, in other words most of the County Championship punters!

  4. If this season commences at all perhaps some sort of shortened program in August and September?the big concern going forwards is the ECB will jump on the bandwagon and follow other sports and look into the idea of restructuring the first class game this could be the perfect excuse to reduce the number of first class counties
