Four signed for The Hundred

Wayne Madsen, Ravi Rampaul, Luis Reece and Leus du Plooy were all picked up for the Hundred tonight.

Good luck to all four of them, but while I wish them well, the tournament holds zero interest for me.

My concern is where it leaves us for the RLODC, with three of our top four missing.

I won't have time to give my thoughts on this until Tuesday evening, so any comments you have, please append here!

  1. Wow! What a car crash that was. I wss never interested in the 100 but was intrigued to see the draft,if only to confirm how one eyed it would all be.
My thoughts were indeed confirmed, and may I congratulate the Trent Rockets on their crass mismanagement. They have some super players signed up but it's basically Notts plus. I thought they were aligned with us and Leics. Clearly not.
I wasn't intending to go anyway but after tonight it's 100% confirmed.
What an absolute joke. FFS why not just put the cricket we all know on terrestial TV, we don't need another competition.
I suggest they change the name to Notts Allstars or similair. I for one hope the 100 is a massive failure. It already is in Leicestershire and Derbyshire.

  2. Yes.concurr its a mistimed/ misjudged joke.i have no interest whatsoever in this crass tournament.
Looks like " NOTTS UNITED" will win though.ps on a more serious that leaves us without three of the top 4 as peakfans suggested what are we supposed to do is ridiculous !.

  3. Hi PF

Recorded it and flicked through the process which was a car crash in all fairness

    I have no interest in this format however two points I would like your opinion on ;

    1. Although they will be a huge loss the fact that 4 Derbyshire players have been signed up speaks volumes of how much we have come on as a County in this format 5 years ago if they had brought this out it would have been Masden (if he was lucky ) so that has to be a huge compliment to us at DCCC

2 Ref Masden he was snapped up by Manchester (Simon Katich ) but on air both Johnny Bairstow and Ben Stokes (who looked gutted ) said they wanted Masden Stokes was shaking his head saying Masden Masden really wanted him !

So at least Wayne is st last getting some recognition for his outstanding talent

    Thoughts ??

  4. The " Jobs for the Boys " , aka the Trent Rockets seems, from the outside, just a way of lining the pockets of mates. With the Management of the Rockets Notts leaning, it's no surprise really the make up of the side is what it is, though I hope that they can look the rest of the East Midlands in the eye ?

  5. I expected Wayne to be selected by Notts Outlaws (or whatever they are called in this tournement), Ravi by one of the other teams and Luis Reece by Manchester and after the test draft possibly Critch as well.

So I got a few teams wrong but my heart sank when Leus was selected knowing that we were going to lose our 2, 3 and 4 from the batting order. At least it is the RL50 they miss as we have more top order options in white ball than we do in red.

With the wages saved I may not be the first or last to mention the name Tom Wood who may benefit from the draft with the wages saved from some of the higher paid players surely frees up budget to finally give him a go.

One other thing we learned from the draft is how much Sky have made a big mistake replacing David Gower with Ian Ward. Looks like my MUTE button maybe overworked during next seasons coverage.

  6. Haha, rich pretty much nailed it.
    Zero interest from me whatsoever.
Suppose we'd better start looking for 3/4 players to help out fir vtalality blast 2020..ps I wonder if Notts will lend a hand? Lol

    1. The players won't miss any 2020 - the 2 competitions are segregated as regarding scheduling.

  7. A lot of other counties will be in the same position for the RLODC. Like it or not it has been positioned as a development opportunity so stand up Anuj Dal. Perhaps Wood could be given a short term contract for this competition and then there will be either Lace (or another) to add to the line up.

  8. Bearing in mind that David Houghton has talked about strengthening bowling resources with an overseas and one other long-term prospect, and is hopeful of bringing in Tom Lace (or presumably another batsman if Lace decides to stay at Middlesex) we aren't necessarily going to be that short of a competitive side: Godleman, Lace (or A.N.Other), Dal, Critchley, Hughes, Hosein, Hudson-Prentice, Mckiernan, Conners, overseas, new bowler. It's short of experience and lacks depth with very little in the way of reserves, but bearing in mind that most other teams are as badly or worse affected, and will have the same problems we have in sourcing reserves for 5 weeks without incurring whole season costs, it's not be any means uncompetitive.

Of course, there is another mini-draft coming, with each team able to pick one more player after the t20, and Godleman and Critchley, and maybe others, might be high on that list with another successful t20.

  9. as said loss of 4 key players then - Mads, Ravi, Reece and du plooy - to be fair all were excellent in the t20 so not a surprise - i also though the draft programme was quite good on Sky although not overly keen on the format - it does give a chance to others though in the 50 over comp and i am also looking forward to seeing some games at places away from the big grounds - yorks rumoured to be playing some at Abbeydale, Sheffield for example
