Warwickshire v Derbyshire

Great day today and finished in the grand manner by coming in to news of a win that keeps our hopes alive.

100 degrees yesterday here and 95 today and I even had a game of beach cricket today with the family. I resume my innings tomorrow, 324 not out... I jest, just in case you wondered.

Great all round work from Wes, while Tom Knight showed why he is so highly rated and why we´ve given him a three-year deal.

Good also today to hear of Tom Poynton´s contract, a wicket keeper batsman who I think will give the club great service in the years ahead as a tidy keeper who will only get better and a punishing batsman.

Funny game eh? Sunday we were rubbish and today completed a very sweet double over supposed betters.

Three games to go. Three wins needed, a few results going our way wouldn´t go amiss either.

For now though, good night and nice work lads. We knew you were better than Sunday.

  1. Bit of a coincidence that the three young players given 3 year contracts are also on Chris Grants payroll at Swarkestone? They will have to lose 2 of them in the future though as only one pro per club allowed. What odds that rule gets challenged or a new ruling proposed?

This aside, I do hope this strategy proves successful for DCCC. A bit of security for young players can only help their confidence and development.

  2. Hardly a coincidence when the three lads are so obviously talented. Irrespective of the club they play for, they have earned a contract on merit and will benefit the county in future.
As for a change of rules, hope that´s not sour grapes I´m smelling... such a move would be rejected on grounds of fairness and rightly so. The players will all develop further with the added responsibility of being county pro for another club - though hopefully their respective talents will see them playing more county than club cricket in future!
