It is fairly clear that feelings are running high at the moment from both sides of the fence regarding the events of the past week.
In response to many requests, I am running a poll which will give a reflection of the feelings of fans at this stage. Given the legal situation, none of us outside the club know the full story about the events of this week and we may not do for some time.
I am always delighted to see your comments, but please be aware that if you are posting suggestions or accusations that I will, for fairly obvious reasons, be deleting them at this stage. While the system allows you to post as 'Anonymous' it is my name and picture on the blog and I can live without being cited in any legal issues. If you feel strongly about something drop me an e mail so I know who you are...
Peakfan36@yahoodotcodotuk. Remember to replace the word 'dot' with one, but I can live without more junk mail telling me of another relative who has died in Botswana leaving me all their money. 164 at the last count. I never realised I had such an extended family, nor that they were all so unlucky on the roads...
Regular readers will be aware that I was critical of the committee during the Amott affair, but I think criticism of them at this stage and suggestions of a petition to remove them are patently unfair and counter-productive.
We know from the media that there was little or no support for John Morris in the dressing room, for whatever reason. Chris Grant, in full possession of the facts, made a decision that he felt was right for the cricket club. Luke Sutton, commendably, was man enough to go to the media and tell the world the situation from the players perspective, taking some of the heat from the Chairman in doing so. We have not heard from John Morris but in the current situation we are unlikely to and that is his right.
I know no more than the rest of you, but I'll say this. Early in his tenure Chris Grant was big enough to make a massive decision, rather than sit on a fence. The rights or wrongs of that decision will probably come out in the course of time if the facts of the case become known, but for now I applaud him for his decisiveness.
It augurs well.
They are looking for another name for another DCCC fans website. Maybee 'In Grant we don't trust' would be OK. He said he was giving John Morris a contract extension and then sacked him.
ReplyDeleteIn Morris I will always trust.
And what about David Griffin? He sat there at the AGM and said that he had offered Morris a contract when he clearly had not.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry but after joining 40 years ago I've had enough. The FBT farse was a joke but this is the final straw. I'll keep my hard earned money from now on.
ReplyDeleteMe and a couple of mates on the night shift at the local factory aren't too keen on a couple of the night shift managers especially as one smells of curry on Fridays. We are going to see the Chairman on Monday to see if he will sack the managers for us.
ReplyDeleteThis 'no more comment stuff' from the club is not acceptable. I have been a member for over 40 years and I demand, like others, to know what is happening.
ReplyDeleteI'm not happy too. If this is how players treat our manager and coach then I am affraid they'll get no more support from me.
ReplyDeleteThere has never been any room in any sport for player power I'm affraid.
ReplyDeleteDoes the entire squad of 20 odd think that they can all play in every game now the wicked witch has gone?
ReplyDeletePlayer power is usually started by a 'ringleader'. Who was the ringleader in the dressing room?
ReplyDeleteWhoever the ring leader was the captain didn't seem bothered to help sort it even after John Morris had rescued his career by giving him a contract.
ReplyDeleteHi Peakfan
ReplyDeleteDo you have any ideas or suggestions who could be our next coach.
John
Guys, until we know what has happened, don't make rash decisions about 'not following anymore' and the like. When we know what has happened and what has turned a dressing room against the head of cricket it is unfair to make snap judgements.
ReplyDeleteJohn - thanks for the name. I'll tell you that in an article tomorrow!
How do you know Griffin or whoever hadn't offered a contract and Morris wasn't stalling? You don't, we don't. Griffin has had some tough press but this has nothing to do with him in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteYou can demand to know what is happening all you like, but with two solicitors on the committee and, one assumes, a legal case coming, the laws of the land dictate otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThe club aren't stupid and are sensibly doing things the right way, as John Morris is by maintaining a silence of course.
I agree entirely with peakfans last post. The chairman has clearly made a decision for the benefit of the club as a whole. Given the clubs recent standing i have to admit im a little baffled by all these crocodile tears from some sections of supporters. Knee jerk reactions are not needed right now. As peakfan says,we still dont know the full facts and may never do so. Morris has gone and thats the bottom line. He aint coming back and we have to move on. Personally i am more concerned about the team than any individuals at the club, former or otherwise.
ReplyDeleteIts interesting to read through various comments throughout the posts...
ReplyDeleteMorris has obviously upset a number of players this season and possibly over the years. Some would just get on with it, others dont like it.. its obviously got to a point where players have had enough, which is never good. So, do you get rid of 20 players and keep the coach or do you get rid of the coach and please some players.. lets hope for derbyshire cricket that the players perform on the field in order to gain the respect of those that love John Morris...
Whether it was the right or wrong decision to let JM go I don't know but why are people having a go at the players?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have seen they were invited to express their feelings regarding the management. They didn't march into the chairman's office and demand the coach to be sacked. They were asked for their opinion and I assume they gave an honest answer. Would people prefer they went against their feelings and lied about the current situation?
Morris can't be that bad with the players as many such as Hughes, Madsen, Groenewald, Durston and Footitt were all very happy to sign new contracts not to long ago. Now this week they don't like him!
ReplyDeleteSutton was claiming that the chairman had no alternative but the sack John Morris. I thought that the committee was making the decisions now and not one man. We were lead to beleive that the days of the FBT were over and the committee were united as one.
ReplyDeleteThe Phantom is absolutely right. As for players signing contracts, you do if you have an opportunity that isn't otherwise there. If you'd a choice between doing the job you loved or not, but only one person offered that opportunity, what would you do?
