Nye Donald opted to bat but was back in the pavilion after three balls. Martin Andersson made 44 and Ross Whiteley 48, but only late impetus from Ben Aitchison (29 from 13 balls) took Derbyshire to a passable total on a small ground.
They finished on 193-9 but Liam Trevaskis (65), Ben Mike (41) and George Maddy (38) saw the visitors to a win with two balls to spare
Ben Aitchison took 3-32 and Matt Montgomery 2-34, but both Jack Morley (0-46) and Nick Potts (1-47) were expensive on a poor day.

Why did Wagstaff, Hawkins and Stewart not play? Leicestershires team has lots of young inexperienced players and we’ve lost to them with basically our 1st XI. Seems that MA can’t even give our prospects a game in the 2nd XI, nevermind the 1sts.
ReplyDeleteMA has never heard of these players. Youth player development is a non entity for him.
DeleteYoung players will only get picked when everyone ahead of them is crocked.
Because they probably won’t be playing Sunday ? It’s been 3 weeks between blast games so this looked like a run out for the senior players in a local game at Duffield. There is another 2nds game away on Friday one can only guess the team may look different then and others will get their chance. Every team will have different agendas for these games
ReplyDeleteIt's a no win situation, really. He plays kids, the seniors come in uncooked and they get slammed. or he plays the seniors and if they get beaten on Sunday, it's because they are tired.
DeleteI guess there were players who asked for time in the middle on T20 skills too
It does seem very strange that in a time when players work loads are often mentioned M A always seems to use nearly all the first team in second team friendly games. Surely the regular first team bowlers don’t need to prove what they can do and a few days off would be far more beneficial. A lot of football teams no longer have reserve teams they just have under 21 s . I wonder if Derbyshire might end up going down that route if they could as it seems almost pointless us having a 2nd team with Arthur in charge of the club
