Derbyshire v Glamorgan day one

Doesn't look like I missed much...

  1. Having travelled down from the North of the county I found today immensely frustrating. My biggest concern had been overnight rain but no it was too windy. According to Derbyshire Ccc comms not too windy to play but too windy to safely remove the lightweight covers!! Come on ! We’re in the 21st century and still we can’t get matches played when it’s dry !
May I suggest we spend part of the £20 million + we are to receive from the much maligned hundred on getting a ground/outfield that is fit for purpose rather than running concerts and fireworks displays. We hear more publicity in these than we do on long suffering members receiving updates on the prospects of play. It was 10 am today before the first update arrived saying the toss was delayed. We’ve known about the potential winds for a week so why couldn’t a decision/ update have come a lot earlier? Not a lot to ask bearing in mind the match was abandoned for day at 3pm with 3 hours potentially still to play presumably by looking at the forecast?!
No wonder CC is dying on its feet.
Far easier though to blame the hundred!

    1. I take it you a blaming the club for the unusual high winds today ? The same reasons were given for games at other grounds…strange that and play at only 1 match in the country but it’s easy to blame Derbyshire i suppose. How many times do people have to point out decisions on play fall entirely on the umpires. If they had called it 2 days ago and the forecast was wrong what then ? Another moan I guess & I would love to know what you would like some of the money you mention spent on to prevent this happening again. A couple of windbreakers perhaps 😆

    2. Where did I say that I was blaming DCCC for the high winds? If you read my post I blame DCCC for the communications to its members and supporters. DCCC usually fills its Facebook page with numerous posts. This morning it had ONE at 9am telling us about the Final home game starting at 10.30 then NOTHING else until the abandonment at 3pm! Yes there was the occasional update on X but even that was sporadic and often late to arrive.
As for spending money on covering the ground all I ask is that we improve our covers etc so that at least they are up to the standard of all the other county HQ grounds where I have witnessed far superior covers.

  2. Wind stopped play.

Don't think I've ever seen that before

  3. 8 matches out of nine with not one minutes play on day one. 8 more draws coming up. The county championship cannot carry on with games in the middle andend of September. It’s making a complete mockery of the competition which is the highlight of the season to almost all members of the 18 counties

    1. I’ve been watching CC 50+ years and it’s ALWAYS carried into at least mid September if not later

  4. Presumably, the yellow wind warning across the country was ignored at the Oval. I assume it was nothing to do with the game being on Sky...

  5. We've always played at this time of year, as long as I can remember? It's not just September that can be windy! Kris

  6. Was it deemed unsafe to take the covers off ? There are 4 or 5 ground staff; 24 player sitting round doing nowt and spectators. Is that's not enough to remove a plastic sheet ? This is a must win game for us and we should have gone the extra yard.
