Heavy overnight rain, followed by intermittent rain and drizzle today, meant that no play was possible. It renders the final day - assuming that they get on - somewhat academic, with only bonus points to gather. I think it very unlikely that Glamorgan would be interested in setting up a 'match' and I certainly wouldn't be, in their position.
It has made for a disappointing end to the home season, but no one can control the weather.
It's a good job that the club didn't bother signing an overseas player for these closing matches... it would have been a long way and a lot of money to sit in the pavilion...
Ages of our side for this match at the start of next season:
ReplyDeleteDonald (29)
Reece (35)
Came (27)
Madsen (42)
Guest (28)
Andersson (29)
Dal (29)
Basra (23)
Chappell (29)
Aitchison (26)
Haydon (23)
Average age of 29.
Kent have 5 teenagers in their side.
Arthur's reluctance to give our young players games is appalling. Any idea there is anything to play for is laughable so the promising young players like Bin Naeem, Hawkins and Stewart should be getting whatever meagre experience the weather allows in these last two games.
The average is pushed up by Madsen being 42, but apart from him only Reece is over 30 , the rest are arguably in their peak years.
DeleteWhilst Stewart seems to have done well for the seconds ,I am not really sure what the others have done , being young is one thing , being young and putting in consistently good performances in the seconds is another. Martin
I agree MA should use the final game of the season to blood a couple of youngsters. As you say Kent have 5 youngsters in their team. However Kent are rock bottom in the league .
ReplyDeleteLaudable an idea as it is, if we lost to them and finished 7th, there would be plenty even more willing to moan. Finishing third is improvement, but Mickey is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't on this one.
ReplyDeleteI have no problem with the team for this game. A win would have given a great chance at finishing second, whether you thought we were capable or not you have to put out what you deem your best teamd and give it a go.
DeleteThey might be 23, but Basra and Haydon are getting opportunity. I would like to see Bin Naeem get a chance at Kent…is Hawkins still with England U19s?
Hi Adam, I too would like to see Bin Naeem play at Kent. I believe Hawkins is no longer with the under 19s so it would be great to see them both playing. Stewart has also performed in the 2nd XI and so I can’t see why he wouldn’t get a chance against Kent, if not then next year he should be in the 1st team.
DeleteIt’s a shame Basra didn’t get a chance to bat in this game but hopefully against kent he can show what a great player he is.
