I apologise that the formatting isn't the best, as Excel doesn't tend to translate well into Blogger. Hopefully it can be easily read.
As always with these things there is a health warning. Sometimes contracts are signed but not publicised and it may be that some of the information is wrong and/or out of date. But it serves to highlight the number of players who will be looking to sort their futures at the end of this summer.
We know now that Samit Patel will not be back. My assumption is that some of the Derbyshire ones will be renewed and a handful won't. Again, the availability of better from elsewhere will be the deciding factor.
It also highlights that some clubs have allowed a lot of contracts to get into their final year.
So, as a nice discussion point for you, who might be of interest to Derbyshire? Bearing in mind there is a limited amount of money available...
I've longed championed the signing of Billy Root, if that could be done. I assume he's local to Sheffield. He would be my number 1 signing. Kris
ReplyDeleteI think we need a solid domestic bat, Kris, but I am unsure why he has fallen out of favour at Glamorgan.
DeleteAt his best he would be an asset but his average is about the same as Harry Came. Is that enough to improve us or are his best years ahead?
I would go Josh de caires as think he has massive potential and last 2 seasons he not progressed to level he should of in my opinion. He still very young would be great red ball.
ReplyDeleteI would go for Josh de caires think he has huge potential. I don’t think he progressed last 2 seasons. He still very young and move away might help him.
ReplyDeleteWe could save a shed load of money by dispensing with the services of MA immediately who has contributed ABSOLUTELY NOTHING since he was appointed. He has not improved a single player since he arrived. He hasn't given ANY developing player a decent chance. And results have not improved. Don't get me started on Duckett and Morgan giving him an extra year for no valid reason whatsoever !!
ReplyDeleteIt might be harder to get a club without much money to invest in a solid middle order batsman now as they don’t tend to be great t20 players and with the cc going down to only 12 matches next season it’s going to be hard for any red ball specialists who aren’t already established. But I agree about root I also think Marcus o,riordan currently out of favour at Kent might be worth a punt. Still young and would be his last chance at a club so would have a lot to prove
ReplyDeleteMy opinion:
ReplyDeleteHarry Came - Retain
Yousuf Bin Naeem - Retain
Ross Whiteley - Release
Luis Reece - Retain
Samit Patel - Release
Alex Thomson - Release
Ben Aitchison - Retain
Nick Potts - Depends
Thomson I'd let go as Hawkins can take his role and Potts should get the one Day Cup to see if has enough.
Rookie deals for Hawkins, Tarrant, Green and Parker who should all also get at least a couple One Day Cup games. A statement of intent in backing the academy.
Basra and Haydon should get deals and play the one day cup to see if they're worth full deals for next season.
Then from other counties I do agree that Umeed and Montgomery would be good signings. Plenty of other players of interest but that list will shrink rapidly as new deals are announced. Have also heard Aldridge is going Durham and Ben Green and Josh Davey to Leicestershire so moves already being agreed.
1 solid domestic bat would be my only bare minimum signing given Whiteley should go and we need to plan for Madsen retiring one day.
Would prefer we aim for players in their mid to young 20s like a Montgomery who needs first team games to flourish or even someone like Joe Phillips who again is stuck behind very established players but has plenty of talent.
Re our current players I agree with most of this. Though would have Whiteley down as depends. He has done ok & getting any form of T20 finisher would cost quite a bit.

Am in agreement, Hamez, good post. Bin Naeem has had a challenging year and concussion didn't help, but is worth perseverance. The other youngsters show promise and its whether we can afford all of those deals
ReplyDeleteMontgomery, as I mentioned before, a very fine player who could be special with opportunity
Dear PF,
ReplyDeleteFully agree with Simon’s comments above re our HOC, who, for all his credentials on arrival has brought little or no success to the club. Surely it is time for a fresh start at the top, for an end to poor selections and schoolboy tactical errors.
