Winning the toss and opting to bat, Joe Hall (wicket keeper/captain like Brooke Guest) saw Cliffe (64) Abrar (24) and Vallabhaneni (43) give Derbyshire a brisk start in this 50 over game.
A middle order slump saw the score drop to 158-6, but Chapman (50) steadied things before Jake Green hit a 22-ball half century with four sixes and four fours.
The final total of 287 proved far too much for Lancashire, although Barrow followed his 4-37 with the highest score of 49.
Matt Stewart, a young seam bowler who looks one to watch, returned astonishing figures of 5-27, while Rubaiyat Abrar, who opens the batting and hits very powerfully, took 3-25 with his clever left arm spin as Lancashire were all out for 181.

Great to hear. This Matt Stewart looks a serious talent and could replace Pat Brown or even just give him a long contract to him to develop for the future if he’s not quite ready for the 1st XI. Derbyshire are producing some great players thank to Daryn Smit and Id like to think they can be given a go in the 1sts in this one day cup.

With good performances from the second XI players today, and also the under 18s - and neither are one-offs this season - it makes you wonder about signing experienced pros for a T20 campaign that never took off. I know it's easy to be wise afterwards, but even so. We have been poor at providing our younger players with the right kind of opportunities to develop in the first XI.
ReplyDeleteI would hope Basra and Haydon are pencilled in for next year and the T20 by the end of this summer. By the looks of him, Vallabhaneni isn't far behind and there are several other exciting talents in that under 18 side.
