Derbyshire v Nottinghamshire Vitality Blast Game 3 preview

With the same squad named as for last night's game, I have nothing more to add to my previous post on a likely Derbyshire side. I suspect that we will be unchanged, so we must see how it goes.

Little would give me more pleasure than for Nye Donald to rediscover his form against our great rivals, but we will see how that goes.

As for Nottinghamshire, they have named fifteen. Australians Moises Henriques and Daniel Sams have been making a good impression, but this is a game that Derbyshire can win and really must. If we were to go 0-3, we could afford very few slip-ups thereafter.

Nottinghamshire squad:

Clarke, Harrison, Haynes, Henriques, James, King, Lord, Martindale, McCann, McKerr, Moores, Montgomery, Patterson-White, Pennington, Sams

It seems strange not to see a top three of Hales, Clarke and Duckett, but also a welcome relief!

As for the result.. until I see greater consistency from our top order, I am struggling to call a win. If they fire, we can do it

What do you think?

Can't see anything other than a Notts win sadly. The bowling concerns me greatly I just can't see sides struggling to make 180 plus against our attack, then that puts us under pressure from the start. Where are the wickets coming from ?

  2. To win this game, the Derbyshire seamers need to show much more variation and cricketing nouse. Both Chappel and in particular Brown have been poor. I cant see anyhing beyong a very comfotable Notts win.

  3. Hopefully, we will have learned from the mistakes we made in the first two games.

One of the BBC commentators in the Surrey v Hants game last night said that Jason Roy has learned to knock it around for a bit before going for the big shots. This is exactly how Donald should approach things. I'd prfer to see him bat lower down the order tonight.

  4. I went into this t20 full of optimism but already, I feel it draining to be honest. Although I don't think we are far off it, and we seem much more confident and unified this year, we still make too many silly mistakes.

If we can hold our catches and have a better powerplay then I think we have a chance but Nottinghamshire are a strong side and they are bit of a boogey team for us.
I still get nightmares from the match a few years ago, where we needed 12 off 3 overs with 4 wickets in hand and somehow tied!

  6. Maybe it's not such a bad idea keeping the same side.Players have a point to prove and they are sure to be hungry against our local rivals. As you say Peakfan whatever the outcome in this comp still a heck of a lot to play for.Topspinner

  7. I'm thinking, Guest for Lloyd, Andersson up the order....and a Derbyshire win. 👌

Or do we put all our eggs in one basket and go all out for promotion from the County Championship. I know what I'd prefer, that is our bread and butter after all

  9. Why do people want Guest in? I just don't get it he doesn't score fast enough for T20 imo. Correct me if I am wrong but Donald hasn't cost us any wickets or runs in the first 2 games. Clearly done nothing with bat yet but at least he has potential to score at a very fast rate.

    1. Guest scores plenty fast enough. He might not be a 'big hitter' but his strike rate is more than adequate. The stats do not support your assertion.

Technically, he is arguably our best batter, and he is electric between the wickets. Why would you not want him in?

I have nothing against Donald, I would keep him in the side tonight, and bring Guest in for Lloyd. Enabling Donald to concentrate solely on his batting. A failure from him tonight however, and my patience will have worn very thin.

    2. People are all entitled to opinions, John, especially on this blog! There is a lot to like in playing your first choice. wicket keeper whose rate per hundred balls actually compares to most in the team

But Nye has got the nod. Now it is up to him to justify his inclusion with bat and ball. If he comes off, as you say, he scores quickly. At the moment, he's not scoring at all and that is part of our problem

  10. I am not feeling confident about this one tonight. It’s strange season before a ball was bowled I would say this team is a white ball team. I now look at it in June thinking the opposite.

I think either Brown or Chappell will come good tonight. They both out of form currently but are very good bowlers. They had some very harsh criticism on social media. In last couple years they have always consistently done a job. I am more concerned about batting line up. I just hope they promote Anderson to opener and Donald at 6/7 where we can look acceleration near the end. It be huge mistake if they don’t do this tonight.

I would play Aitchinson see how he goes with potential sharing with someone else. I can’t see point only playing one match and dropping.

Have they made grandstand boundary significantly shorter?
