He would be excellent for second half of the season and t20. I can’t see him as listed on ecb website on the ins and outs. I swear he had been picked up but maybe I was wrong. He is much more capable than Tahir with the bat. You can tell I am excited haha. The flip side is that we would then have to bowl 8 overs minimum from Madsen, Critchley, Hughes & Reece (assuming that Viljoen,Rampaul & overseas bowl 12). I am not convinced that this is better. I think we have enough bowling options and part timer spinners. Also I would like areece to stay at 3 and Madsen at 4 so an opener to take the Godleman role would be grest. I would keep Critchley as an opener and well done to him on his Lions call up. Great stuff. Glen Maxwell has been a consistent performer, but I assume that now the OZ selectors have realised this, and his performances in BBL and against England his fee will have rocketed..... unless he was actually signed weeks ago and announcement is just a timing issue to get a rush of preseason members. What about an Aussie, there seemed to be plenty in BBL doing some damage?Opening Bathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06519434436888497342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-46846306391908034.post-69625761710521311522018-02-13T15:20:46.903+00:002018-02-13T15:20:46.903+00:00Hi Peakfan Blog,

Keep up the good work! Just to add to the general discussions, I really think to build on the great success in the T20 last season, one of the overseas slots needs to be a top six batsman in this format for 2018. More power at the start of the innings is crucial to try and secure that elusive Finals Day slot, rather than opting for two overseas bowlers as seen last year. Martin Guptil or Glenn Maxwell for 2018 would be excellent. Do Derbyshire have the player budget for this, though? Could the release of Cotton, Taylor, Milnes etc be to help fund star names in the T20? The second T20 slot should ideally be taken by a spinner. Tahir or Mitchell Santner perhaps? For me, the first choice names for this season in the Vitality Blast would be Guptil and Santner if both are available for an uninterrupted stay.
James

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-46846306391908034.post-41368622332208330062018-02-13T07:05:34.824+00:002018-02-13T07:05:34.824+00:00I think he is a talent, Steve, but at 21 I dont th...I think he is a talent, Steve, but at 21 I dont think him yet strong enough in either discipline for an overseas role.

He can hit a ball, but often seems a last resort bowler who does take wickets. I think what we have is fine for 4 day cricket and a top six of Billy, Luis, Wayne, Gary, Alex and Matt is a good mix. We also have Ben Slater, who has a big season ahead.I think both Daryn Smit and Harvey Hosein could bat top 6 if needed, so for me, bowling sides out twice is key.
But in T20, a gun hitter to take advantage of Powerplays will be huge. Billy did better last year, but there's always room for improvement!Peakfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01328174919897893268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-46846306391908034.post-35814435382765538442018-02-10T09:13:00.890+00:002018-02-10T09:13:00.890+00:00Shame Snapper I would have Guptill for t20. Would ...Shame Snapper I would have Guptill for t20. Would also make him captain. Can’t have your captain going on international duty mid tournament like last season. Ludicrous. My ideal selections would be: Philander early CC and RLODC. Then Maharaj for latter part of season including t20 perhaps. The other t20 player I would love is Maxwell. Useful bowler. Bit of a golden arm. Could bat 3. Would mean Reece to open and Madsen still at 4. Something like this:

Critchley
Reece
Maxwell
Madsen
Wilson
Brodrick
Hughes
Smit (w/k)
Maharaj
Viljeon
Rampaul

We could perhaps play an extra bowler. Would have played Cotton myself but he’s no longer here so Davis perhaps with some wide Yorkers and occasional short ball. So many bowling options which I like as big fan of bowlers doing 1-2 overs so it’s harder for oppo to get a rhythm going.
Mark Nhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15195212583411179197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-46846306391908034.post-39057825708689543522018-02-10T09:06:43.684+00:002018-02-10T09:06:43.684+00:00Point taken Snapper.
