Of course they will attract interest, but both have two years on their current deals and are players I would expect to honour them.
Borrington? I've written before that I think the lad can play but next year is his last on the current contract and he'll be aware he needs to make an impression.
Nice to hear from you - do keep in touch!Peakfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01328174919897893268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-46846306391908034.post-50100570975518372462013-09-07T21:34:33.386+01:002013-09-07T21:34:33.386+01:00Peakfan - Nice piece and one thing that's been...Peakfan - Nice piece and one thing that's been with me all season watching and reading reports, not once has Shiv ever complained or shown any sign of discontent for playing for a team that was routed to the bottom of the table. I'm sure he doesn't need the money he is getting here, and could at any point have complained in the press - but Shiv hasn't once done that. Fair play.

I do worry about relegation - It concerns me that Groenewald and Madsen will get approached by other teams offering double the salaries I am sure they are on at Derby - and these two guys for me are the two key players Derbyshire have.

One minor point and I'll be interested on your view on this - Paul Borrington - I see it as a given that when a batsmen has 100+ balls bowled at him, he will get a good one that will get him out. Wouldn't it be more of a benefit to try and therefore score a little quicker than what he does, so he has a better chance of contributing 30/40/50 plus than what he does now. His one day knocks have shown he has the ability, but I cannot help but feel he isn't good enough and that because he doesn't score quick enough, he'll be out before a decent score.Rogernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-46846306391908034.post-40668879661207224582013-09-07T17:04:52.430+01:002013-09-07T17:04:52.430+01:00How and why is indeed a fascinating question. The ...How and why is indeed a fascinating question. The fact that Shiv had fallen short of the high expectations just shows how tough it is to succeed at this level of cricket. It was no surprise to me that we initially struggled against the level of world class players featuring in many of the teams.
Around half our first choice players were struggling and momentum and confidence was subsiding quickly. To his credit, Krik threw the dice and decided to rest some players and tried those who were performing well the 2nd X1 and they have done remarkably well.
Slater, Poynton, Hughes, Burgoyne and Higgingbottom all impressing. Some of these lads are still on summer contracts and are performing against seasoned international players and at times not looking out of their depth.
We have seen a new spirit resulting in vital partnerships at key times and superb bowling spells at Hove and Taunton from Groenewald, Footit and Palladino. Overiding this has been our classy Captain batting brilliantly when we most needed him.
I personally feel that Div 2 cricket is no where near the doom and gloom scenario but obviously the recent performances show the huge potential of our team and boy is it exciting.
It is now up to the displaced lads to fight back and recompete for their places. That can only be healthy for the Club.
What I do think is obvious is that currently we have a body of young players who really want it and will work hard at their games to develop themselves into better professionals and give us a team which we can continue to be proud of.

Bf Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-46846306391908034.post-11262170522818785322013-09-07T15:05:18.675+01:002013-09-07T15:05:18.675+01:00Its been a strange sort of season for Chanderpaul....Its been a strange sort of season for Chanderpaul. I think a pre-season poll would have had most people tipping him to score at least 1200 runs, perhaps even a few more. With a possible four innings remaining he is unlikely to reach the thousand milestone and therefore has not been the success we all thought he would be.

I would go so far as to say he was one innings away from some quite stern criticism, even from people who up to now have remained quiet. I,m not trying to say he,s been a failure,he hasn,t,but I would still question whether we have really had maximum value for money.

There is no question of his value yesterday and that innings has,for now, kept us in division one. One or two similar innings in the remaining matches will go a long way to ensuring we remain there. Leaving his batting on one side,I have no doubt as to his value off the pitch and the advice he may offer on it.The younger players will certainly have enjoyed having him around, for his enthusiasm and professionalism.

One reason we struggled early season was a lack of consistent runs from Chanderpaul,s bat,a player we were relying on. I hope next season we don,t have to rely on him as much, though if he does reach a thousand plus runs it can only help us. Yes,he has been a satisfactory aquisition in a number of ways but I think we need to keep it in perspective and admit he,s not quite been the real deal where we needed it most and that,s on the pitch.Marcnoreply@blogger.com
